The project brief for this assignment asked us to reflect on ideas we hold about ourselves and how we can convey our personality, talents, and passions through a personal logo. The goal was to create a logo that demonstrates an ability to convey a specific idea to others.
The research process mostly consisted of drawing, however I looked at other logos and saw how they tried to connect their personality/skills through their logo. I looked at other artists' personal logos, brand logos and portfolios for inspiration.
Next, the drawing process. Most of this started from my initials, like many others. My initials are NB, so I tried to turn these letters into images. I played around with the idea of trying to show my caring side through a logo that made a heart. Smiles and soft colors were played with in hopes of trying to achieve this, but they were eventually scrapped.
The editing process took the longest, and I eventually went with a minimalistic design. My personality is very bold and bright, so I at least wanted to include something in my logo that conveyed this. I included a soft blue to invoke a feeling of trust, warmth and brightness. I played with different line weights, sizing, positioning and distances. The logo above was the first draft of my logo. As you can see the font changed dramatically.
The overall product is something I’m happy with, but not proud of. It’s basic. Given more time I would definitely try to experiment more and create something that better portrays my personality.
